What exactly is a portlight?

A portlight is a round window mainly used in industrial or ship doors. A portlight consists of tempered, clear glass surrounded by a metal ring. Portlights are also called portholes, but they cannot open and the application is different. Other terms used are deadlight, sidelight and side scuttle.
 

The benefits of portlights

Portlights offer the following benefits:

• They let in daylight or other light. This makes the space behind the door in question less dark and drab.
• You have the ability to see what or who is on the other side of the door. This provides extra safety.
• The glass of a portlight is tempered and 12 millimetres thick. As a result, this window can take a good hit and will last a long time.

Portlight of aluminium or brass: choose the portlight you need

Our range includes portlights of aluminium and brass. An aluminium portlight is available with a diameter of 200 mm and 250 mm. The brass portlight is available with a diameter of 200 mm, 250 mm and 300 mm.

By default, all our portlights have 8, 10 or 12 drill holes (depending on the diameter). But the portlights can be delivered undrilled by request.
